Move boulders and reach the top of the mountain in this top down puzzle game made in GB Studio.

This small game boy style game was created for a school project as a demonstration of a tool for the purpose of telling a narrative. The project surrounds the rhetorical affordances and limitations of digital tools. In this case, GB Studio was that tool.

What became clear to me throughout the analysis of this tool was the difficulty in telling a narrative with such a limited tool set, and how the mechanics inherent in the game engine, like pushing an object, became the tools at my disposal for story telling. This ultimately changed the narrative direction I wanted to go in initially. This became another one of those examples of the medium becoming the message, and the tool shaping the field of possibilities.

While the game itself can be played to "completion", I would hesitate to say the game is actually complete. The narrative lacks a coherent conclusion aside from the completion of the main objective, and numerous threads that I wanted to bring into the game were left untied, or altogether dropped. The game also has numerous bugs which are currently being worked through as I continue to develop this fun little project into something more complete.

I'm grateful to anyone who plays and leaves feedback. Thank you for playing, even for a moment.
